Teacher Assistant

Catalyst Church Childcare Program is currently searching for part-time, afternoon Teacher Assistants to pour themselves into our children. The position will consist of afternoon hours flexing between 12-6 pm Monday-Friday.

Our program strives to provide sound Biblical principles and Christian values within a Christian environment. All, while providing developmentally appropriate programs of learning and growth for young children in a safe and nurturing environment, in accordance with the spiritual vision of the church.

In addition to providing a loving, Christian environment, the program that we provide is developmentally appropriate as well as academic. We believe that children learn by DOING and PLAYING! We place a strong emphasis on social skills such as functioning within a group, learning to perform self-help tasks, gaining independence and helping each child to develop a strong and healthy sense of self while being creative.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations: 

  • Provides a positive and nurturing environment for the children
  • Provides consistent and constant supervision of children
  • Complies with all rules and regulations pertaining to the health, safety, and care of children
  • Uses positive statements, is a positive role model for children
  • Ensures an organized and structured daily schedule
  • Manages daily afternoon functions for the classroom, including but not limited to transitions, room organization, snacks, naptime, and diaper changes
  • Enriches student learning experience with creative ideas and activities
  • Interacts with parents in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Accepts responsibility for housekeeping duties of the classroom
  • Attends all required staff meetings, trainings, and/or school functions as determined by the Director
  • Maintains a professional personal appearance, attitude, and work behavior at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Required to stand up to 90% of the day
  • Must be able to lift up to 35-40 lbs. in the course of caring for children and managing emergency situations


Skills, Education and Experience

  • Must meet all requirements stipulated by the state for this position
  • Highly professional and dependable
  • Must be able to interact appropriately with students of all ages and skill levels as well as with parents, coworkers, and management
  • Classroom teaching experience in an Early Childhood facility, a plus
  • Enjoys children and expresses genuine interest in them
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong effective, interpersonal skills.
  • CPR, First Aid, and SIDS Certification, a plus if already have
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including the ability to maintain composure under stress
  • Open to change - flexible and able to adapt. Able to multi task, and can manage time in a fast-paced environment
  • Must pass a criminal background check and have a qualifying letter from NC DCDEE.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be at least 18 years
